Kerem Gokmen // Guest Transmissions 001
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Guest Transmissions, an occasional series inviting selectors, artists, broadcasters, and record collectors whose ears we deeply admire to share a musical journey from their own world.
The first transmission comes from Pittsburgh-based DJ, WYEP broadcaster, and Dubmission host Kerem Gokmen.
Rather than building the mix around a single genre or mood, Kerem assembled these selections from records he picked up while digging in Istanbul earlier this year. The result is a richly personal 72-minute journey through long-lost film scores, Brazilian jazz, reggae, dub, Romanian pop, and modern productions from around the globe, united by curiosity, groove, and discovery.
In Kerem's words:
"I contemplated different themes, but then scrapped all the random ideas and went with a rather simple approach. The records I played here were all ones that I picked up in Istanbul this past January when I was there last. It features sounds from long-lost film scores from the 70s and 80s, from artists originating from Brazil, Antigua, Jamaica, France, Italy and Romania, and some more modern productions over the last twenty years. Hopefully some people will discover names they've never heard of before."
