Earth Tongue // The Eisenberg Review Interview

Earth Tongue have spent three albums expanding the possibilities of their patented two-person sonic attack. On Dungeon Vision, released earlier this year on In The Red Records, guitarist and vocalist Gussie Larkin and drummer Ezra Simons push their heavy psych further into a strange meeting place between garage rock, doom, prog, and something closer to fantasy world-building. The riffs remain blunt and physical, but the record is defined as much by contrast as force: melodic vocal interplay, sudden shifts in scale, and an atmosphere that can feel playful and ominous at once.
Much of Dungeon Vision was recorded in Los Angeles with Ty Segall, who co-produced and mixed the album after developing a relationship with the band through touring. The collaboration gives Earth Tongue’s music added weight without sanding away the wiry chemistry that makes the duo work.
I caught up with Larkin to discuss the making of Dungeon Vision, Earth Tongue’s evolving sound, and the universe that continues to grow around the band as they take the record on the road.
